Ingredients

    • 1 kg (about 2 lb) potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
    • 3–4 tbsp butter
    • ½ to ¾ cup warm milk (or cream for extra richness)
    • Salt (to taste)
    • Black pepper (to taste)
    • Optional: garlic powder or a clove of boiled garlic

Instructions

  1. Peel & cut the potatoes into equal chunks.
  2. Boil in salted water for 15–20 minutes, until very tender.
  3. Drain well and return potatoes to the hot pot for 1 minute (this removes excess water).
  4. Mash using a masher or fork.
  5. Add butter and mix until melted.
  6. Gradually add warm milk, mashing until smooth and creamy.
